Documentation & Overview

About FontSVG

FontSVG is an open-source, client-side vector typography converter. It transforms Google Fonts and custom desktop font files (.ttf, .otf, .woff) into continuous SVG path outlines and CAD DXF drawings with zero server roundtrips.

Comprehensive Capabilities

Professional Vector Font Outlines at Your Fingertips

Convert any typography into clean, continuous SVG paths and CAD DXF drawings with complete precision and privacy.

1,500+ Google Fonts

Direct integration with Google Fonts API. Instantly search and render typography from popular sans-serif, serif, display, and handwriting families.

Local Custom Font Upload

Upload your own .ttf, .otf, or .woff font files. All glyphs are parsed directly in your browser using OpenType.js without server uploads.

Boolean Union Merging

Automatically merge overlapping letter outlines using Maker.js. Eliminates inner intersections in cursive scripts for seamless vinyl cutting and CNC routing.

Bezier Curve Accuracy

Fine-tune approximation tolerances for quadratic and cubic bezier curves, producing optimized SVG path commands with reduced node count.

Multi-Line Formatting

Supports multi-line text input with custom line height multipliers, automatic empty line skipping, and precise kerning adjustments.

100% Client-Side Privacy

Zero telemetry, zero server-side rendering. Your confidential fonts, proprietary logos, and sensitive text never leave your local device.

Industry Applications

Engineered for Designers, Makers, and Engineers

From digital UI graphics to physical fabrication, clean vector outlines unlock endless possibilities.

Laser Cutting & Engraving

Export DXF and SVG geometry with merged strokes, ready for LightBurn, Glowforge, Cricut Design Space, and CAM laser software.

CNC Routing & Machining

Generate closed vector loops with accurate dimensional units (mm, cm, inches) for toolpath generation in Fusion 360, Vectric, and Carbide Create.

Web & UI Animation

Extract pure <path d="..."> coordinates to animate text stroke-dasharray in CSS, GSAP, or Framer Motion without bulky webfont files.

3D Printing & CAD Modeling

Import clean DXF/SVG profiles into Blender, SolidWorks, or FreeCAD to perform clean 3D extrusions without self-intersecting polygon errors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know

Quick answers to common questions about SVG path extraction, CAD export, and font privacy.

Why convert fonts into SVG paths?

Converting fonts to SVG paths turns text characters into raw vector coordinates. This guarantees that your typography renders identically across every operating system and browser without requiring visitors to download font files. It also allows direct boolean manipulation in vector tools and CNC machines.

What does the "Union" parameter do?

When you enable "Union", overlapping character paths are merged into a single continuous polygon. In cursive or script fonts, adjacent letters normally overlap; without Union, laser cutters would cut through the overlapping intersections. Union eliminates internal cutlines.

Can I use this tool for commercial projects?

Yes. FontSVG is open source under the MIT License and completely free for personal and commercial projects. Please ensure your chosen font license (e.g., SIL Open Font License for Google Fonts) permits your intended commercial application.

Does FontSVG store or send my text to any server?

No. All text parsing, font loading, Maker.js CAD calculations, and SVG generation happen exclusively within your client's browser engine. We do not store, log, or transmit any user text or uploaded font files.
